Background
Demond Tibbs is a 46 year old attorney and Saginaw Township resident. Demond currently serves as the Deputy Assistant Director for the Saginaw County’s newly formed Office of Counsel for Indigent Defendants (OCID). He is also an Adjunct Professor at Saginaw Valley State University. Before joining the OCID, he spent 10 years as an Assistant Prosecutor for Saginaw County.
Demond received his Bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University and his Juris Doctorate from Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
Demond served for 4 years on Saginaw’s City Council, he was appointed in 2014 and then elected to the seat in 2016.
As a former member of Saginaw’s City Council, he knows how important it is for our legislators to stay connected in order to fully understand the needs of the community. On Council he worked as part of a team with colleagues from varying political backgrounds to craft ordinances in direct response to issues brought forward by concerned citizens.
His time as a former Saginaw County Prosecutor and as the current Deputy Assistant Director for the OCID gives him valuable insight into the needs of our residents. Demond’s unique perspective will translate into thoughtful legislation and real solutions to the pressing issues we are facing, such as Pandemic recovery that prioritizes health, safety and economic security for all citizens, expanded access to affordable healthcare, smart criminal justice reform, fully funded public education and investment in our aging infrastructure.
When Demond is not working tirelessly representing his clients, he likes to spend his time giving back to the community. He serves as a Board Member for the Saginaw County Parks and Recreation Commission, First Ward Community Center and Saginaw County Employees Credit Union. He also serves as a Volunteer Instructor for the Urban Youth Tennis Program the READ Program, Law Day Attorney and is an active Alphi Phi Alpha member.
